The History of I-D Magazine

I-D Magazine was created by Terry Jones who decided to design not a fashion magazine but instead a magazine that would celebrate 'street style', fashion and youth culture.
The first ever issue of ID was released in September 1980 and is still on sale to this day

Although the magazine has since evolved from a hand stapled fanzine, into a mature glossy magazine, the original mentality of "street style" and "youth culture" remains a prominent part of the magazine, separating it from all of its successors (such as Dazed & Confused or LOVE magazine) and predecessors (Vogue).

Typography

Typography is one of the most important parts of the magazine as it is made to appeal to a wide audience, such as Kerrang is made to facilitate Rock and Metal fans with the use of fonts and colours, for example:

whereas ID is a fashion magazine which means that they will go for a more elegant font and a bit more high class as well as clean cut. i want to mimic the style  of ID to create a cleaner and ore elegant font for my final piece, i have also chosen to use red writing like the one below, because i like how it dominate the page but i want it a little bit darker

Building an Idea

When creating a magazine cover you must consider a few things, including: the colours, the pictures and the typography.

The colours
Mix mag is also different as they make the cover appealing to all by adding colours aswell as interesting pictures , but again it is to do with the image they are trying to uphold, mix mag is trying to keep a current hip image which is achieved with use of bright colours and loud typography.

With ID magazine the most common colours seem to be Black and white which are the colours that i want to use, they create a sense of elegance as well as mystery.

With NME magazine the colour schemes are bold and in your face to grab attention, it also goes with the genre of music that it is trying to represent. The different colours could be eye catching if used correctly, with the lady gaga issue the yellow is bright but the blue over powers it which makes the title eye catching.
